Food security will be the focal point of the upcoming annual summit of the Association of Lagos State Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries(ALARHOSPS).

The summit, the 11th in the series, will be held between Tuesday 13th  and Wednesday 14th August, 2024 in Ikeja, Lagos.

It is poised to proffer local and creative solutions that can be implemented both in the short and long term to solve the current lingering food security challenges in the country.

ALARHOSPS’ President,  Otunba Nurudeen Ojora-Adejiyan stated this in a statement signed by the Association’s Publicity Secretary, Sir Olusina Thorpe.

With food and nutrition challenges reaching alarming proportions worldwide, Ojora-Adejiyan noted that there is no better time to discuss this invaluable subject than now.

He said: “Globally, there are crises, disasters, both man-made and natural, that have threatened the availability and sustainability of food supply. This is why we have decided to focus on the subject in our forthcoming summit tagged “Agenda for Sustainable Development and Food Security”.

The  ALARHOSPS’ President added that food security is a cornerstone of any stable and prosperous society, stressing that every individual and group should have access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious foods to lead healthy lives.

He stated further that Nigeria, despite its rich agricultural heritage and potential, faces significant challenges. This, he noted, should be addressed through a comprehensive and collaborative approach, involving both state and non-state actors.

The concept of the ALARHOSPS Summit, which started in 2015, is to serve as a veritable platform through which relevant and useful contributions are made toward state and national development
