President Muhammadu Buhari has announced a gradual easing of the lockdown imposed on Lagos and Ogun States as well as the FCT as part of measures to contain the spread of the deadly COVID-19 virus.
The President, who made this declaration in a nationwide broadcast, Monday evening, said the steady process of easing the lockdown becomes effective from Monday, May 4th, 2020.
According to the President, the latest development becomes necessary based on the need to reduce the severe economic consequences of the lockdown on the country.
Buhari, however, announced a total lockdown of Kano, saying he is gravely concerned about the unfortunate development in the State.
Saying that the method put in place has so far considerably reduced the spread of the virus, Buhari commended all frontline health workers whom he described as heroes of the battle against the deadly COVID-19.
Expressing gratitude to the insurance sector, the President disclosed that the Federal Government had procured insurance cover for 5000 frontline health workers
On security, Buhari assured that protection of the lives and property of Nigerians remain topmost for his administration.
