The Lagos State government has disclosed that the release of some impounded vehicles, as recently directed by the State governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, takes effect after the current lockdown.

The clarification was contained in a statement signed by the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso.

This explanation, Omotoso says, has become necessary in view of the visits by some motorists to offices of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Vehicle Inspection Services (VIS) and Task Force for the release of their impounded vehicles.

Stressing that Mr. Governor’s directive does not overturn the lockdown as directed by the Federal Government, Omotoso urged residents to keep faith with all precautionary measures put in place by relevant authorities to  reduce the spread of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.

Recall that, in addition to other soothing measures introduced to lessen the economic weight of ongoing lockdown of the State, Governor Sanwo-Olu had directed the release of all vehicles impounded for minor offences from 1st March 2020 to 14th April, 2020.
