LASEMA rolls out new operational strategy to tackle emergency


As part of efforts to reduce the impact of Aemergencies/disaste rs and improve response time during emergencies across the State, the Lagos S t a t e E m e r g e n c y M a n a g e m e n t A g e n c y (LASEMA) has approved the establishment of Zonal Coordinator positions for the three Senatorial Districts.

The Director General of the Agency, Dr. Olufemi Oke- Osanyintolu disclosed this during his maiden meeting with the newly appointed Zonal Coordinators and other Heads of Departments in the Agency, saying that the e s t a b l i s h m e n t i s i n c o n s o n a n c e w i t h t h e LASEMA Law of Lagos State of 2015 (as amended). According to him, the Zonal Coordinators will head Rescue Coordinating Centres to be located in the three Senatorial Districts of the State, namely, Lagos-West, Lagos-East and Lagos- C e n t r a l w i t h t h e responsibility of handling emergencies and other related issues in those areas. Oke-Osanyintolu added that the Cappa Dispatch Centre in Oshodi, Command and Control Centre, Alausa-Ikeja and the Dispatch Centre, Onipanu, on Ikorodu Road will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer of the Agency for efficient and e f f e c t i v e d i s a s t e r management.
Osanyintolu further added that the Zonal Rescue Coordinating Centres would b e c h a r g e d w i t h t h e responsibility of determining the resources required to t a c k l e i d e n t i f i e d emergencies/risks in the Local Government Areas, prepare inventory of business facilities and structures that are prone to emergencies and report to the CEO for appropriate action.
He explained that the Zonal Coordinators are expected to w o r k w i t h r e l e v a n t stakeholders, such as the Red Cross and Local Emergency Management Committees (LEMC) in ensuring prompt and adequate response to all emergencies.

While emphasizing that the Agency is stepping up massive advocacy to ensure that every citizen in the State is safety conscious and emergencies are reduced to the barest minimum, Oke- O s a n y i n t o l u i m p l o r e d Lagosians to cooperate with t h e a d m i n i s t r a t i o n o f Governor Babajide Sanwo- O lu b y report ing any emergency through the emergency toll-free numbers 112 / 767.

The LASEMA Boss, however, charged the Zonal Heads to hit the ground running, raise the bar of performance as well as to join hands with the government in actualizing its mandate in making Lagos State a safe haven for all and sundry.
