The General Manager, Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, has applauded the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) for its support of the T.H.E.M.E.S policy of the present administration.

Dr. Fasawe stated this while welcoming a five-member team on a courtesy visit to the Agency, affirming the readiness of LASEPA to collaborate with UNIDO in exploring all avenues and opportunities that would be beneficial to the people of Lagos.

In her words, “To assure you of our commitment, we have mapped out strategies and work plan to take advantage of this holistic gesture to enhance productivity and widen our horizon in terms of standard operating procedures”.

“We are more determined to religiously utilise the opportunities given by UNIDO to our advantage”, she added.

Earlier, Mr. Jean Bakole, the UNIDO’s representative to ECOWAS and Regional Director, Nigeria Regional Office Hub and Team Leader – commended the eco-friendly initiatives of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), just as it pledged its support for the Agency.

Bankole highlighted special areas of collaboration and support between UNIDO and the State Government through the environmental regulatory body.

According to him, UNIDO sponsorship/partnership programmes are strategically designed to impact on the environment and empower the people in order to reduce poverty.

He added that the partnership will also improve the standard of living through job creation, revealing that $60 Million had been appropriated within the period of five years to meet related challenges and needs of beneficiary States.

“We are happy with what we met on ground, especially on your single-use plastics campaign which is globally acceptable, applicable and eco-friendly towards our efforts to save the mother earth. This meeting is to drive home our support for LASEPA and to further establish areas of interest in line with the protocol of the organisation”, he asserted.

The United Nations officials had earlier visited the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu to pledge support for the government and its people-oriented programmes/projects.
