The Lagos State Public Works Corporation recorded a landmark 98 percent overall project performance in 2020 with strategic intervention in road maintenance and rehabilitations to the tune of about 90 kilometers road networks of 7.3 kilometers single carriage way across the State.

Making this disclosure at a session to mark the first working day in 2021 at the auditorium of the Corporation, the General Manager, Engineer Olufemi Daramola, also reiterated the need for strict compliance with the standard Covid-19 prevention protocols among all staff of the Corporation.

Engr. Daramola said: “With your cooperation, perseverance and hard work we were able to cover 90 kilometers in road network using 7.3 kilometers single carriageway as standard, with this, it is convenient to state that we have achieved 98 percent overall project performance’’

Speaking further, Daramola said there is a spike in cases of COVID-19 in the State and as such residents should strictly adhere to all the COVID-19 protocols such as the use of facemasks, hand sanitizing, regular washing of hands with soap and water, maintaining physical distancing among others.

Speaking on welfare of staff the General Manager assured that the State Government has made provisions for availability of vehicles for seamless movement of personnel to and from project sites.

“This year, welfare issue shall be given topmost priority”, he pledged.

Also, in continuation of the State Government’s determination to prevent health disorders, detect and reduce diseases early enough for effective treatment, the Corporation conducted a health screening for all categories of staff.

As a follow up to the screening, some staff diagnosed with eye defects were presented with eye glasses to enhance their sights for optimum productivity.

The General Manager stated that though, the Corporation is yet to arrive at its desired level of accomplishment, he expressed his appreciation and gratitude to all staff for their commitment to the Zero Tolerance for Pot Holes initiative of the State Government.

He said the change in narrative as regards constant and effective maintenance of strategic roads across Lagos State is a collective effort of all categories of staff.

He said: “We know it is a long journey and we are not there yet, but the Corporation can’t thank you enough. From the skilled labour to the well-motivated drivers, operators, mechanics and indeed all staff of the Corporation, we express our deep appreciation”.

While noting that the Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, places serious premium on the state of the roads and the need to support the Public Works in the execution of its mandate, Engr. Daramola stated that a projection of 250 kilometers has been set for the Corporation by the Governor.

The interactive session was attended by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Works and other Directors and management staff of the Corporation.
