The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has presented staff of office and instrument of appointment to Oba Babatunde Adebowale Muideen Balogun as the 1st Onisolu of Solu Alade Kingdom in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of the State.

At a brief ceremony, which took place at the Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja on Tuesday, the Governor remarked that the presentation of Staff of Office to the monarch was as result of the upgrading of the Baale stool to that of Obaship after going through all the due process from the Local Government to the state.

The governor, who was represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Dr. Wale Ahmed, enjoined indigenes of the kingdom to support the new monarch in preserving the sanctity of the stool.

He said: ‘I urge you to give unalloyed support to the new monarch in order to enable him safeguard the sanctity of this sacred and highly revered institution’.

He charged the new monarch to see the Obaship institution as a development partner with the government in bringing about communal peace and social development.

‘Let me remind you that the institution of traditional Obaship in our society, regardless of the advent of modernism, remains a rallying point for the generality of our people and it has been serving as a veritable vehicle for the dissemination of Government policies and programmes and for the mobilization of your people.  As a custodian of the culture and tradition of your people, you should be seen as a rallying point for the maintenance of communal peace and social development’, he said.

Imploring residents of the community to shun violence, cultism and embrace peace, the governor urged them to protect public infrastructure in their community.

Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Chieftaincy Matters, Prince Bayo Osiyemi, said the installation of the Osolu kingdom in the month of August was a synonym of royalty that was majestic, dignified and noble.

In his acceptance speech, Oba Babatunde Balogun, appreciated Mr. Governor and members of the State Executive Council, while pledging to work closely with the government to bring development to the community.

Present at the ceremony were member House of Representative, Hon. Bayo Balogun, Chairman, House Committee on Local Government and Community Affairs, Hon. Abdul –Sobur Olawale, Hon. Dr. (Mrs) Lola Akande, Hon. Ajayi Oladele, Hon. Gbenga Oyerinde, Prince Olusola Olusi, Dr. Tola Kasali and Hon. Olohuntele Folami among others.
